UPDATE ENDS....
VFC would like to remind fans and press alike that a second meeting is being held on the 28th June 2003, between 2-4 pm at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre, 8 Aston Hall Road, Aston, B6 7LB (just below Aston Parish Church).
Mr Ellis and Mr Ansell were both invited to attend the meeting. They responded swiftly but decided to decline the invitation to better facilitate debate amongst fans.
The purpose of the meeting is for the independent report on the business workings of Aston Villa to be unveiled by Howard Hodgson. Howard Hodgson has said "Aston Villa is a publicly owned company that makes its money by selling memorabilia, tickets and above all dreams to its customers. In order that these dreams might become reality Aston Villa need to engage a top team of executives to professionally create the stage on which Mr O'Leary can build a successful team and thus allow success to create success. My independent report will detail the good as well as the bad practices in the current set up and make recommendations for the way the club might move forward in order to make its dreams become reality. I look forward to delivering it to you."
Professor Carl Chinn MBE has kindly agreed to compere the meeting again and says "Like many other Villa fans I am looking forward with anticipation to Howard Hodgson presenting his independent report on the business affairs of Aston Villa. VFC has show commendable initiative and thoughtfulness in commissioning this report and its action highlights that it is a positive thinking pressure group determined to push for the best interests of Aston Villa Football Club and its fans. It is easy to call for the board to go, it is harder but more beneficial to find out how the club is run and to come forward with concrete and helpful policies. I am confident that Howard Hodgson's report will bring to the fore the actions and decisions needed to ensure that Aston Villa sheds its unwanted image as an underachieving club."
Jonathan Fear, a spokesperson for VFC says "We believe that this independent report is unique and are sure no other fan group has commissioned such a wide ranging and in depth report on the workings of 'their' club. The level of commitment shows the current board that the fans are not only well informed and educated but also determined in bringing about radical change at Aston Villa. We are sure the report will clearly illustrate exactly how Aston Villa is run and we hope that it will unify the fans in wanting to bring about the roots and branch change needed to take the club into the modern era of football. We demand change in order to give David O'Leary the right platform to build upon and bring about the success we all desire."
Jonny Gould has also kindly agreed to attend.
Copies of the report will be for sale on the day for fans.
Tickets for the Ian Taylor and Alan Wright 'Testimonial' Evening will also be for sale on the day (£10 adults, £5 under 16's).
